Amazing April: Birthday Month Recap

As many of you know, I celebrate my birthday for the entire month. It’s really not just for me, I believe it takes the stress out of trying to emphasize and remember just the one day and spreads the joy and fun around for a few festive weeks. This way, there’s no deadline on gifts, cards, or get togethers because we have plenty of time to enjoy. And enjoy, we did. For all of April.

We started off with a small party on my actual birthday, Saturday, April 9. I had hoped for sunny skies and some warm spring weather, but that was not meant to be. We got clouds, a sprinkle of rain, and some very chilly, windy temperatures but it did not put a damper on our good time one bit. We cranked up the outdoor heaters and I celebrated with some of my favorite people, a bartender (which we had never splurged on before but I highly recommend), a taco bar, and a doughnut cake.

The sign says what it says, so it must be accurate. Happy 21st to me.

I said no gifts, but don’t you love when people ignore you and bring great things, anyway?

Look at this “tub of awesomeness,” as we came to call it. Filled with cocktail mixers, inflatable flamingo drink holders, tumblers, and everything else a girl could need to have a party out by our pool.

I got so many great presents, including these Peep earrings, some beautiful scented candles,

and a wine glass with my new mantra “Coping and Hoping.” Amen to that.

Being surrounded by fabulous people makes the getting older part easier to do.

And to “sweeten” the deal, a doughtnut cake (seriously, so good) and some mini cupcakes. Why pick one dessert when you can have three?

Life lately has had some challenges.

I wished for a healthy, happy year ahead!

The party was such a fun and festive way to mark the occasion that I almost feel greedy for continuing to celebrate for three weeks afterward. However, my family and friends have come to expect it, so who am I to let them down? I did keep the remainder of April more low key, while still managing to squeeze in a handful of other celebrations, including: a visit with my parents and some lunch and shopping with my mom, a birthday brunch, a neighborhood food truck and live music get together (not really for my birthday but still a good time), and a final dinner with friends to cap off the month. It was a whirlwind, but I’ve had a few (ahem) years of practice.

I’ve been really having to watch my diet lately (getting older is not for wimps).

My mom made me a gluten-free birthday cake and it was dang delicious!

I celebrated so much, frankly, it calls for a collage. Here are more pictures from the rest of the revelry!

I had an April filled with fun, friends, family, and so many of my favorite things. Thank you to everyone who indulged me and who made me feel celebrated. To quote my beloved Betty White, “The older you get the better you get, unless you are a banana.” And no one better argue against Betty.
