Meet George: A New Puppy Post

It’s been just over two years since I wrote Meet Charlie : A New Puppy Post and I swore (famous last words) that I would never get a puppy again. Don’t get me wrong, puppies are adorable, and they have to be, because they are wild, crazed, furious little razor-teethed barrels of energy that eventually mature into our beloved dogs. It’s the eventually part that I find difficult.

But our dog Charlie is just over two years old and he has rarely, if ever, met another dog he didn’t adore. He spends most of his days watching in the window for dogs to walk by our house, and we knew he was longing for a companion. So we did what any crazy dog people would do: we got our dog our a dog of his very own.

Here we are in March 2020, picking up Charlie.

And back again in March 2022, to the same breeder to get Charlie’s new “brother,’ George!

Allow me to formally introduce the newest member of the Stancil household, and the one who seems fully intent on ruling the roost if he has his way. Weighing in at a whopping 5.6 pounds with the bark of a Dobermann and the swagger of another George (TV’s George Jefferson, that is), please meet Gorgeous Georgia On My Mind, otherwise known as simply George.

The new kid on our block, Gorgeous George.

While we have only known little George for just over a week, I can tell you he is a snuggler but also full of sass, has a voracious appetite (for his dog food, but also for electrical cords, hair, and human flesh, OUCH), and is not afraid to be vocal when he feels the need to try and talk to his household about how he wants things done. He loves chasing his tail, is surprisingly decent at short walks on a leash, and seemingly unafraid of almost anything. Charlie is still trying to figure out exactly how to play with a puppy one third his size, but they have found rollicking success with a Frisbee, which has become our go-to after dinner entertainment.

Mischief? Never heard of her.

This is how Charlie “hides” under the bed. Now he’s teaching George his covert techniques.

Next to Frisbee, wrestling is their second favorite pastime. I think they are going to be good friends.

And Clint seems to have taken a liking to the little guy, too.

And this is our favorite version of George: sleepy George! It’s when he’s at his best behaved.

We are still adjusting, losing a little sleep here and there, but we know it will be worth it to welcome little George into the family. He and Charlie are getting along better by the day and figuring out new ways to keep each other entertained. As always, the dogs beckon. I’m sure there will be plenty more appearances by both Charlie and George in the future. It seems the only thing better than a fluffy white little dog, is two!
